SK8OLOGY

I got the opportunity to be part of this very exciting project "SK8OLOGY", thanks to Rich Tuzon. A lot of Artists from various background and professional skaters were asked to use a skate deck as a canvas. You can read all about it here .

I spotted this beautiful Plymouth Belvedere 1958 down the street where I live, so I sat down and sketched it directly on the board... I really enjoyed doing this.

I took the first photo at a beautiful vintage petrol station on Lake, "Ronnie's Automotive Service". I drive by it everyday, it's used a lot in movies, and thought it would be great for a photo of the board with a vintage car on it.

How fuckin' cool is that!! NOW you're getting some Californication into your work-better than those depressing back alleys with barbed wire fences & telegraph poles! How brave to sit down & draw straight onto the board man-times like that you've just got to hold onto your balls & go for it-resulted in a great drawing. Neat gas station too-love to see more pics of interesting LA landmarks.

- Emmanuel, merci beaucoup! ce n'ai rien compare a tes superbes croquis. Je t'en envois un bientot!

- Thanks Francis, your sketches from Comicon are superb.

- Mon sexy!

- Merci Vince!

- Thanks Ry, It's on lake in Altadena, just off the 134, exit lake avenue in Pasadena, turn left on lake toward Altadena and it's not far up on the right.

- Mon Pierrot! merci! je t'email bientot!

- Merci mon Ami! I'm growing my hair to get the same haircut. This gas station is so beautiful, I've been told that they shot some scenes of Transformers here.

- Thanks Brian.

- Thanks a lot JP.

- Merci Monsieur Jones! I quite like drawing those depressing alleys too though, trying to get something interesting out of it is more difficult than sketching in Europe, where every building is old (I mean more than 50 years old!) and full of details.
When I was in London I realized how much more difficult it is to sketch in the streets, in L.A everything looks kind of the same and flat.
When I drew on the board, I just went for it as if I was drawing in my sketchbook, and you know, when you sit in a nice street, sun on your back, it's very relaxing to sketch, no pressure, just good times.
Have you seen Rodolphe?
Bises!

Stef, I love the sketch! I agree, it's brave to sketch it right onto the board. Beautiful.

Ronnie's is one of those landmarks I've been dying to photograph. A gorgeous spot.

is it always set up like this, with all the props and everything? does it actually function in any way other than as a location for tv and film?

i had dinner in new york with dan owen at a little cuban place and the walls were covered with murals of havana: the people, the old american cars etc. it made me think of you and i took some photos but, i don't know if i ever showed you. i'll have to dig them out.

and your skateboard is beautiful. reeally motivated me to get off my ass.

i'm looking forward to seeing the show.

I LOVE the board Stef. Well done! I remember skating as a kid and always wanting a driver's license and a cool car instead so this has a funny meaning for me. And you even got Rich's truck in the background.
