Blue Spruce

A little digital watercolour blue spruce, on photoshop. I have to paint a lot of different flowers and trees at work at the moment for a project.
I'm trying to push the watercolour a bit further as it's digital, playing with the edges, layers, transparencies.
Doing this on the Wacom Cintiq tablet is a bliss.

This one as a more gouache feel to it, probably because I added some light blue highlights on top of it.

Yes Mattias, it's the screen tablet. Takes time to get use to it, but you can then paint with amazing spontaneity.

DIGITAL!! That's mind-bending. I'm failing miserably at REAL water-colour lately. You've mastered the medium in ALL dimensions!

- Merci Smook!

- Thanks my friend, we're hopefully see you very soon. The Cintiq is incredibly good to develop new watercolour technics, a lot of fun.

-Thanks Vince! Happy new year.

-Muchas gracias dear Oscar. I'm just doing this digital watercolours for work, easier for them to handle, no scanning, easy to change the colours if needed.
Nothing beats a good real brush and watercolours and the feel of the paper.
I found very helpful actually that I've done a lot of traditional watercolour before going digital, I think you need to understand how the real watercolour react on paper if you want to achieve the same effect digitally.
I stick to the same rule digitally to keep my work fresh, I paint as if I was painting traditionally, same number of layers.

If you've gone all horticultural I hope you've seen Planet Earth. Make the cronies at work screen it in the cinema for 'research' purposes.
Especially the 'Seasonal Forests' episode with the monstrous conifers, the tallest tree in the world and this.

Awesome! simply awesome! your use of photoshop is really amazing! it would be good if you made a small tutorial of the procedure step by step...

Very cool! The best watercolor technique I've seen digitally so far. I love the bottom spruce piece, those highlights give the needles much more dimension and it makes it feel more spruce like. Definately post more, I think we all would love to see it.
