Winnie The Pooh Baby Nursery.

I've been asked last September, to create 2 Winnie the Pooh illustrations for Ashley Simpson and Pete Wentz baby nursery walls.

I really wanted to keep the charm of the original late 60's/early 70's Winnie the Pooh featurettes, as I always do at work when I draw them, and get this kind of animation cel on a background feel to it. Storytelling was crucial too, I didn't want to just slap some big characters on their walls like stickers.
The first wall below is the one overlooking the baby crib, so I chose to make it an indoor scene. I drew Winnie and Piglet reading a story just right where the crib was meant to be. Eeyore's tail was removable, and Winnie, Piglet and Eeyore were printed on a board and cut out, as well as Tigger and Roo below.

The second one was a wall next to big windows and trees outside, so I designed an outdoor scene, using some colors from the garden to get a sense of space and continuity.
The chalkboard in the middle was made out of real chalkboard material, so their son can draw on it.

The actual nursery below.

I'm glad I could hire U 2 do this cuz I'm too busy 2 do it myself!!

The real chalkboard is a great stroke of genius, and the colors are alive.
I still think your greatest work can be seen when you paint the canine.

How come you decided to print them on a board and do a cutout for the characters ? instead of directly on the wall? The finish walls are great . J'aime beaucoup votre abilite.

- Merci Mike. What do you mean "when I paint the canine"?

- It's all digital Bill. Photoshop, and then printed out on huge sheets of adhesive kind of wallpaper.

- Felicitations Lucile!!! bisous

- Hopefully before you're my age Grace :) I can only go there by boat right? :) xx

- Photoshop dear Dorota.

- to give some volume to the scenes Dominique, to make the characters pop out a bit. Merci :)

- Thanks Tim and JP :)

These are just delightful! I am a huge FAN of yours. I have been doing a blog about painting on the iPhone, and found your pages through that. Your sketches are wonderful too.

Bonjour Stephane! I remember these :) They look great up on the wall...you could start a side business doing murals. If you need an assistant, I'm there (will work for food)! Hope you are doing well!

I love these. What a beautiful job you've done.

My question is somewhat like Whitney Pollet's, only if I don't get my answer I will bother you at your house.

Do you do this through Disney? Otherwise, are there issues with rights to the characters? I hope you got paid huge piles of money.

- thanks tooninator.

- Oh thanks a lot Valerie :)

- Stacey! come to visit soon! hope you're well.

- Merci Nathalie :) c'est tres gentil, ca c'est leur chambre de bebe, c'est immense!!! la prochaine fois que je reviens a Alunois, je t'en fais un dans ton salon :)

- Thanks Craig!

- Thanks Petrea. Yes, I did it through Disney, they asked Disney to create some artwork especially for them, so they got it for free, no big pile of cash for me, and I wouldn't have been allowed to do it on the side, would have gotten me in big trouble with the mouse, although with the money I could have had from it, I could have flown back to France and buy a castle.

Just let me know - did you get to meet them and what are they like!

If they put it on Twitter, is it a secret then? I'm dying to know who they are.

Okay, not dying. That's an exaggeration. But from time to time yesterday I paused to wonder.

- Holly! Ah so you know! Yes I met them at their house in Beverly Hills last August, and her Mum... but I'll tell you all by email xxxx And yes, I'll do Lucas room with pleasure for you guys, i''d love to spend time in London, Tina and I are missing it a lot!
Lots of love

- Petrea...it's ....it's....do you really want to know?...it's Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz. Never heard about them before I met them.

How did I miss this? I always liked pooh, and that soft watercolor style background has always been my favorite. When I still worked for the mouse, I always collected Pooh painted backgrounds.

I've heard of her. But somehow I'm reminding myself of when I tried to explain Led Zeppelin lyrics to my mother. She wasn't as interested as I'd hoped she'd be.

How did you get the characters to stay on the wall and what material did you use to print them on? I absolutely love this! The chalkboard idea was ingenious!
It would be great if they referred you to others! (not painting licensed characters of course)..
