I spent a great deal of my 20's swinging on the series of gymnastics rings across from this particular hot dog stand. I used to buy chalk next door. You've captured the light and place wonderfully, it was a total flashback for me and I thank you for that. Makes me want to go back.

Good to see these 'real' painted ones. Gorgeous. Must have been so fun to do too.

But the Iphone videos below are delicious too. Always good to visit your blog.

Cheers Stef!

Je trouve tes croquis magnifiques!!!! Je te suis depuis un petit moment et cette semaine j'ai décidé de mettre ton blog en tant que "Blog of the Week" sur mon blog.

- Thanks Goro.

- Thanks Olga :)

- Thanks Jeff, gouache was perfect for the rich colours of Santa Monica at this time of day.

- Thank you very much Steve, I really appreciate your comment. It's such a great reward when somebody who knows well a place I've sketched ,likes it, and recognize it. Just out of curiosity, did the place/area changed much since your 20's?

- Merci Sylvain! Tes planches de B.D sont absolument SUPERBES!!!

- Hey Rich, thanks. Yes gouache, I haven't use them for a long time, and they're perfect here, I wanted something more punchy than watercolours.

- Hey thanks Doodlers! How are you guys?

- Merci Thierry :) J'aime beaucoup ton dessin d'Herman Dune!

Steph, this rocks! Love those shadows in the foreground, really helps frame the whole piece. Your color and value are spot on.

These just get better and better, man! Wow! Can't wait to see more!

Great "vignetting" (not sure if that is a word) and I like the blue shadows on the foreground and on the building as well.

Just curious, how long did this take you?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the two of you want to explore with Petrea and me? We're looking at Altadena caves now.

Unknown said...

- Where are you know Chris?

- Thanks Ry.

- Thanks Craig!

- Mr Sponie/Mackay, this took me probably 1h30, I started on location and finished some of the colour at home. Thanks for visiting :)

- Caves a Vins?

Et bien sur, et comment qu'on va s'echanger des originaux, je n'attends que ca. Tu veux quoi, un seche-cheveux, un parpaing Californien au HB sur du "C" a grain?
Moi j'retourne sur Kaira shopping :)

Stef,

I'm a bit late at getting to this one...Very strong, quick and tasty.

Blogger seem to be inventing a new language: this one's 'minigrap' on the word verifier.

Unknown said...

Bonjour Neil, merci! I haven't used gouache for quite some time, I forgot how difficult it is to use. If only I could have the same hand as Albert Brenet.
"Minigrap"... interesting. Hope all is well on London :)
