1965 or 1967.

I'm still doing some small, quick, digital paintings on my iphone around L.A, using the app "Brushes"; I have 25 so far, done over a month. I'm planning on doing 100 of them and compile them in a book later, nothing sure yet. So that's why I stopped posting them here as I want a bit of a surprise.

I drew this Mustang fastback the other day in the park next door (the old fashion way this time, with a pen and some watercolors in my sketchbook). I went there as they're shooting some scenes of a movie again, so I was expecting a lot of interesting things to sketch or to look at, but they were gone already. There was this superb car on the parking lot, the owner told me what year it was, but I forgot.

is there a little metal strip/lip along the back, above the tail-light area? if so, I believe it's a 67...if not, it's a 65. I can't quite tell from your sketch (which is fabulous, by the way!)

First Islipian, you're as fast as this mustang! I just posted this 30 seconds ago, and you already commented on it.
Second, I amazed by your knowledge about vintage cars, yes there was a little metal strip above the tail light.
Third, thank a lot!

I like the color. Probably from last century - the 60's

Did you draw this one with your I-Pod?

I can't believe how amazing the Ipod sketches are. Can't wait for the book. What an ideal tool to capture Los Angeles. I mean, heck, there's an NEA grant here, I'm sure! (Or does anyone even give art grants anymore?)

what software do you plan to use to put your book together?
Quite lucky to have such wealth of action going on right out]side your door ;)

- Oui Ryan.

- No. with my little fingers, some paper and some watercolours Oscar, the way I like it, on the spot, with my dog lying next to me.

- Thanks Laurie! I'm not sure about the book yet, I'm looking at all the different options, a publisher, self published... we'll see.
I'll go around Mission Street soon to sketch, paint, so beautiful around there!

- Hi Olechko...are you a James Bond spy? The software I'm planning to use would be a publisher, if not, I have no idea. Why? do you have any recommendations?

Just saw that, thanks! I'm up for your challenge, but not on illustrator though, traditionally, on paper with a pen :) I like your dog.

You are incredible with digi-paint! Just incredible. Hope you get the book going.

Oscar Grillo said...

Do you mean to say, in your answer to me, that you drew using your dog as an easel or something?

That's a very english and "superficially charming" thing to do

grande grande grande..ma perchè parlo poco l'inglese??!!!
ciao stef!

- Thank you very much Tash! I'm getting more and more confident with the Iphone painting. I stopped doing digital painting for a very long time, but this is very interesting and I learn a lot doing those painting. To think fast, for colors, composition...great exercise.
I'm open to new techniques, but always come back to my pens and sketchbooks.

- Sorry Oscar, can you subtitle what you're saying?

- Thank you Bufi!

Love the color on this Stef! It looks like it was done in the 70's with all the desaturated tones. Nice!

In London, it's not easy to find cars like this. I think I've drawn enough black cabs and red buses.

I'm late to this one but I just realized no one gave you a definite answer.

This is a '65 Mustang fastback. You can tell by the fact the car has an extended space for the trunk:

The '67 - '68 model had a bit less room back there. Like so:

Sorry for showing my obsessive nerdiness. This is a great little illo and you really captured this car. The fact that it's a car from four decades back done entirely with traditional media really makes me smile. Cheers.
