Today I’d like to do a little homage to André Franquin. He passed away 10 years ago, aged 73.
Franquin was a genius. I sketched him from a picture as I would have sketched him if I’d been next to him, very quickly. I tried to be as spontaneous as he was in his work.
I’ve learnt so much by reading his comic books when I was a kid in France, and he surely made me want to draw and become an Artist.
There is so much life in his characters, even the objects seem to be alive, the way he’s drawing all sorts of vehicle his terrific. He can give so much personality to anything (just have a look at “Le Trombone Illustré” covers he illustrated)
So, merci Monsieur Franquin for all the amazing Art you produced and the inspiration you gave me and still do.

Love his comics, and now I've introduced his work to my kids, they love it to.
Gott nytt ar Mattias!
Formidable!
Great likeness. I went to the exhibition 'le Monde de Franquin' here in Brussels. They had a lot of sketches which showed how meticulously he prepared his Gaston Lagaffe pages. He never stopped sketching during his lifetime. One of his favorite subjects were monsters. Well it was a great exhibition...:)

I raise my glass to the memory of one of the greatest belgians ever!
Franquin was and is one of my all-time heroes. What a master and what a sad story behind his life.
Great drawing of the man.
ULI
That's a really nice drawing.
- Merci Matthieu!
- I'm thinking about going over to Brussels to see the exhibition this year.

- Hey Uli! good to have you back around here. Thanks.
He was a master indeed, he influenced and still influence so many Artists.
They did a great catalogue of his exhibition in Brussels, a book, full of amazing sketches and illustrations, unfortunately only in French I believe.
- Thanks Steven.
Franquin was great. I love both his "sunny side", like Spirou and Fantasio, and his "dark side", especially his Black ideas.
